Cholecalciferol, commonly known as Vitamin D3, is a potent ingredient used in many commercial rat and mouse poisons (rodenticides). While essential for health in small doses, the extremely high concentrations in these products cause fatal hypercalcemia (excessively high calcium levels) in rodents.
